26 Yesterday my friend Joyce and I journeyed to the town of Eldorado (pronounced with a long A) for the explicit purpose of meeting Jim Runge (pronounced RUNG-ee)(part of Texas' charm is that nothing is pronounced the way it is spelled). Runge, an Eldorado native who retired back to his hometown after many years living elsewhere, is the individual behind almost all the stuff that makes little Eldorado interesting. An exception to this would be the polygamists who recently established an enclave four miles out of town--Runge had nothing to do with that even though their presence has given him much fodder for his "work."

Johnny Appleseed Johnny Appleseed (John Chapman) was born on this day in 1845, probably at Leominster, Massachusetts.
